A cataract is a condition where the natural lens in the eye becomes cloudy and hard and are usually a part of normal aging process. If the blurred vision due to cataract is disturbing your daily lifestyle, the cataract may need to be removed.
The latest technique of cataract removal is Femto-Second Laser Assisted Blade-Less Cataract Surgery also popularly known as Robotic Cataract Surgery. The laser is accurate to the level of 5 microns thereby enhancing its precision, safety and visual outcomes over regular phaco surgery
Cataract is a clouding of the natural, clear lens of the eye. It usually develops as we age, but occasionally cataract formation may be seen in newborn babies and young ones too. These congenital cataracts could be the result of genetic tendencies, drug reaction caused during developmental stage, eye infection, trauma or injury, etc. However, whatever may be its cause, cataract causes blurred or double vision which makes it difficult for an individual to perform his/her daily activities. Cataract surgeries have now become painless, blade-free and safe.

Anything you see is an image that enters your eye in the form of light. Inside your eye is a lens, much like the lens of a camera. The lens focuses the light rays coming through the pupil onto the retina at the back of the eye. The different parts of the retina collect this light and send a message to your brain, enabling you to see. A cloudy lens is called a cataract. It is not a growth or a film over the eye.
The first signs and symptoms include cloudy vision, frequent changes in your prescription thereby requiring changes to your spectacles, difficulty seeing at night, glare and haloes, sensitivity to bright lights and double vision in a single eye.

The most common cause of cataract is the denaturation of the normal protein structure within the lens of the eye with age. There may be other causes like diabetes, kidney disease, glaucoma, smoking, eye injuries, infection and inflammation inside the eye. Prolonged use of certain medications can also lead to cataract formation.
There is no medication for treating cataract but surgery has long proven to be an effective treatment of the disorder. With the advancement in technology, it is now safer than ever to get your vision corrected with minimal risks to your vision.
